2018 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class Roadster Review
It is a well-known fact that Mercedes-Benz is the leader in every car category present today. So when it comes to small and sporty two-seater roadsters then there are only few models that can compete with the Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class.
The SLC-Class is a fairly new model by Mercedes-Benz introduced in 2015. It is a replacement for the SLK-Class which was produced from 1996 to 2015. The SLC-Class was introduced with economy and efficiency in mind which is why it features smaller but more efficient engines than its predecessor car.
The current first generation of Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class was introduced as a facelift model for the outgoing SLK-Class. This means it does share the same design ‘DNA’ with its predecessor. A complete re-design is expected to be introduced in the upcoming 2019 model later this year.
It has the same automatic retractable metal roof , featured in the old models. The roof is also available as panoramic which allows you to let in the natural light in, even when the roof is up. The car features an overall sporty look, present in both the exterior and the interior. It is designed to look the best with the roof down because that’s what roadsters are for.
As mentioned earlier, the SLC-Class was designed to be more economic and efficient than the model it replaced (SLK-Class). So, the SLC-Class was already expected to feature smaller engines with lesser power. Even then, the performance numbers are impressive for a model in the small sporty roadster category.
The SLC300 model features a turbo-charged 2.0 L inline-4 engine that produces 241 HP. This relatively small motor is enough to propel the car from 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds which is really impressive. The SLC300 also comes with adjustable suspensions which includes settings like comfort, sport and sports plus. It also has a sports exhaust system which helps in smooth cruising.
Despite being a small sporty roadster, the SLC-Class is still a Mercedes-Benz which means it features all the comfort-oriented features that are a standard for the company’s vehicles. It comes with comfortable Nappa leather seats that can be heated, even with the roof down, so you can enjoy the air without worrying about outside temperature. The seats are also electronically adjustable with memory setting and so is the steering wheel. The SLC-Class comes with a brake hold feature which helps you hold the brake when waiting on traffic lights to rest your foot.
Of course, AMG would not have let this small sporty roadster remain untouched from their influence and workmanship. There is only one variant of the SLC-Class available i.e. Mercedes-AMG SL43. This model features a powerful 3.0 L V6 engine handcrafted by AMG. This engine produces 362 HP which accelerates the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, which is more than a second faster than the SLC300.
