2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class: What’s New?
Mercedes-Benz is a car manufacturing company that produces state-of-the-art vehicles which dominate every category. So when it comes to small hatchbacks, Mercedes-Benz has an answer in the form of their A-Class lineup.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class was launched in 1997 as direct competition to the luxury hatchbacks. Mercedes-Benz prefers to call it a subcompact executive car (which is a fancy term for a luxury hatchback). The first generation (W168) wasn’t exactly luxurious as it came with basic options for the cars at the time. However, through the course of time, Mercedes-Benz worked hard on their sub-compact class and they finally got it right with their latest model which is the fourth generation (W177).
The 2019 model of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W177) has been completely re-designed. The previous model faced a lot of criticism for its design being too ‘dull’. The designers took this criticism seriously and they have certainly silenced the critics this time. The new A-Class is a gorgeous car with super slippery, aerodynamically tested body. The headlights are sleek and have a more aggressive look. The car is longer and wider than the previous model, to allow more room inside.
The biggest improvement design wise has been the interior. The biggest attraction of the interior design is the two side-by-side screens on the dashboard. One of these screens is behind the steering wheel for driver’s info, while the other is on top of the center console for infotainment and controls. The famous ambient lighting of Mercedes-Benz is also available in the A-Class.
The new A-Class is better in every category than the outgoing model including the performance features. Although the new A-Class features a smaller 1.3 L turbo-charged inline-4 engine, it still manages to produce same power output as the older slightly bigger 1.6 L inline-4. The only other gasoline engine that will be available in the new A-Class is a 2.0 L turbo-charged inline-4 which produces 221 HP @5,500 RPM. You can also expect this engine in the AMG variant of the upcoming A-Class which is yet to be announced.
Comfort and Convenience
When it comes to comfort and convenience, this new A-Class is miles ahead then its older model. It has an autonomous driving system, borrowed directly from the mighty S-Class. It lets you sit back and relax on the longer routes while the car gets driven on its own. The car will stick to the lane or even change the lanes on its own, when required. It also has an augmented reality satellite navigation system, which allows you to view the road and the map side-by-side on the infotainment screen for an inch-perfect perspective.
The new A-Class also comes with a voice command system which is very convenient in controlling the cars. You just have to say the words, “Hey Mercedes” to activate the system and it will be at your service.
The new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will go on sale later this year.
