2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Is the Stylish Alternative to the E-Class
Mercedes-Benz cars always stand out in every single type of vehicle imaginable. They produce the ultimate luxury sedans, sports cars, vans and even trucks. But every brand has a car that isn’t exotic by nature, but will still turn heads whenever they cruise down the road. For Mercedes-Benz that car is certainly the CLS-Class.
When Mercedes-Benz launched CLS-Class back in 2004, they had only one goal in mind and that was to make an interesting alternative to their midsize luxury sedan, the E-Class. Now the question that might come to your mind is what has E-Class got to do with CLS-Class?
The answer to that is both the CLS-Class and E-Class are built on the same platform, however their design aesthetics are quite different, which is why this is hard to tell.
Is it a Coupe?
As many other trends in the automotive industry Mercedes-Benz is also the pioneer to use the term “4-door coupe”. The first car to bear this description was none other than the CLS-Class. This introduction changed the game of how consumers perceived 4-door sedans. Although sporty sedans had already been around for a quite a time before the CLS-Class launch, none of them were specifically designed to look like a sporty coupe.
Many car enthusiasts however, refused to accept the concept of a 4-door coupe and some still do to this day. They believe that no car with more than two doors should be called a coupe. But whatever anyone might say, Mercedes-Benz is proud to be the first company to make this car. Now many other rival manufacturers are also following the way paved by CLS-Class by making their 4-door coupes.
It’s Going Green
The 2019 CLS-Class is the third generation model and Mercedes-Benz has decided to introduce it with a Hybrid variant as well. The first major change that you will notice in the upcoming model is the lack of a massive V8 engine. All the top variants of will feature a 3.0 L turbo-charged inline-6 engine that will produce 362 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes-Benz’s initiative towards green technology has already produced hybrid versions for many of its models and now CLS-Class has finally joined that club as well. The hybrid version of the CLS450 features a 48V electric motor which is ergonomically placed between the engine and transmission. The motor is powered by 1kWh lithium Ion battery and produces 21 HP and 184 lb-ft of torques. If you combine this hybrid powered with the gasoline engine then you get figures like a 0-60 mph time of just 4.8 seconds.
