Here’s Why the Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC is The Best Four-Wheel Drive System

July 5th, 2018 by

Mercedes-Benz is a brand that excels in every area of car manufacturing. However, most of the cars that Mercedes-Benz produces are usually rear-wheel drive. That’s because rear-wheel drive cars give a more natural feeling when driving and also have some performance advantages. But when the competitors started gaining success by developing ‘all-wheel drive’ (AWD) cars, then obviously Mercedes-Benz had to introduce their take on the trend.

To compete with the AWD vehicles, Mercedes-Benz came with 4MATIC system for their cars. 4MATIC is the name given to the all wheel drive versions that Mercedes-Benz produces just to distinguish them from the competition. It is a very advanced AWD four-wheel drive system that is now available in almost all of the cars that Mercedes-Benz makes.

Although the 4MATIC system was introduced only a few years ago, it has been in development for quite some time. This system was first introduced back in 1987 when Mercedes-Benz implemented it on their W124 E-Class Saloon and Station Wagon. This system was very effective and it slowly grew with time on many other Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

How It Works?

4MATIC system is completely different when compared to traditional four-wheel drive systems on other cars. It is an intelligent system which is designed to provide power to all four wheels individually. 4MATIC stays activated all the time so you don’t have to worry about turning it on before entering a slippery or unstable surface area.

4MATIC system works with ABS (Antilock Braking System), 4-ETS (4-wheel Electronic System) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to ensure safety and perfect road grip on any surface. The 4-ETS senses any wheel if it slips or looses grip. After sensing this instability 4-ETS applies brakes on that particular slipping wheel to keep the car going. This system also applies on more than one wheel, which means as long as even one wheel of the car has the grip, the car can keep on moving.

The 4MATIC system is also fully integrated with the drivetrain. This helps the driver in understanding the loss of grip or any kind of traction problems on the surface through the driver assistance program by Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-Benz Cars with 4MATIC

Since 4MATIC has passed all the tests throughout the course of its development. Mercedes-Benz has implemented it to almost all of their vehicles. 4MATIC system can be found on the following models of Mercedes-Benz:

  • A-Class
  • B-Class
  • C-Class (coupe, estate, saloon, cabriolet, CLA)
  • E-Class (saloon and estate)
  • G-Class (G-Wagen, GLA, GLC, CLE and CLS)

So if you are looking to upgrade to a perfect four-wheel drive car, then cars with Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC should definitely be your first choice.
