Mercedes-Benz Attempts to Beat Tesla With Autonomous Electric Van

September 21st, 2016 by

Mercedes-Benz is working to beat Tesla to a self-driving, electric cargo van. The recent partnership with Matternet has led to a research car that has been designed to eliminate nearly all humans from the process. This vehicle is currently a concept, but Mercedes-Benz has spent at least $560 million on this endeavor. This van is said to be designed to compete with Tesla’s vehicles. The CEO of Tesla stated that they plan to release a self-driving electric semi truck. Both of these vehicles could revolutionize this industry.

Mercedes-Benz plans to create a vehicle that is not only electric and semi-autonomous, but would be able to deliver its cargo using drone technology. Mercedes-Benz believes they can pull this concept off. Most of the technology that is applied in the vehicle currently exists today.

This new design and technology could revolutionize this industry. Not only would this technology impact how mail and small packages are delivered, but similar technology could show up in passenger vehicles in the future.
