Mercedes-Benz Creating Wireless Charging Technology
The new Mercedes-Benz S550e hybrid luxury sedan will most likely be the first car in production to offer wireless charging as an option. The company announced the availability of wireless charging earlier this year as part of their plan to update their vehicles. The new car will use a version of the Qualcomm Halo system. This technology was built under license by a third party.
Qualcomm has another existing arrangement with the #Mercedes-Benz Formula One racing team to supply equipment to acquire data. The Qualcomm Halo system relies on electromagnetism, much like other wireless charging systems. By running electricity through a coil of wire, a magnetic field will be created. This allows a current to be transferred between coils without a connection. This equipment works by placing a coil in a base plate that is to be positioned on the ground. The other coil is in a receiver that has been installed underneath the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz expects car owners to bolt the base plates to the floor in their garage. Mercedes-Benz has previously stated the new wireless system would have a 90 percent efficiency rate.
The new car will bring revolutionary new technology to the market. If you are looking to purchase a new Mercedes-Benz, come see us at Mercedes-Benz Brampton. For more information about our current inventory and the services we have to offer, check out our website at www.mbBrampton.ca.
