Mercedes-Benz Electric Cargo Van Debuts

October 5th, 2016 by

The all new Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck was recently unveiled at the 2016 IAA International Commercial Vehicle Show in Germany. This new vehicle is a purely electric truck. It features two high-speed asynchronous three-phase electric motors.

The powerful motors can output 339 horsepower. The battery pack is made up of three different modules that have 212 kWh of power. The truck has a range of 124 miles per charge. This truck is meant for urban deliveries, so the range of the electric motor is sufficient for its purpose. The truck uses regenerative braking to help charge the batteries if there is heavy stop-and-go usage. The batteries are modular, so a customer can adjust them, whether adding or taking away battery power. Mercedes-Benz stated this vehicle is near production, but details about the launch or pricing have been released. These kind of vehicles are expected to become more popular in the future.

This new electric release could mean big things for Mercedes-Benz. The new technology could be translated to their other vehicles.
