Mercedes-Benz Gets One Step Closer to the Reality of Self-Driving Cars
If you were waiting around for flying cars to come into existence, you will be disappointed to learn that although we are closer to 2020, the technology that some people from the 1990s predicted would have come into existence by now, hasn’t. However, what we do have is the next best thing — self-driving cars. Yes, and the biggest indicator is that Mercedes-Benz is all set to make its move with its very own self-driving car that is going to revolutionize the industry.
Self-driving cars will change the way people commute, as it will allow them to handle other tasks, without worrying about driving their car to work. Mercedes-Benz has come out with the F 015, which is a concept car, along with the semi-automated E-Class cars that are designed to make driving easier.
Meet the 2017 E-Class Car
You must understand that the 2017 E-Class Mercedes-Benz isn’t a self-driving car, but it does allow you to automate some tasks, such as lane changes. It features automated sensors that figure out when you to switch, allowing you to relax without constantly checking your blind spots or mirrors. The sensors will also check corners, ensuring that you don’t have to worry about pedestrians, and other people on the road, and making navigating around traffic stress-free.
The E-Class Mercedes-Benz also offers short-term correction of up to 50 seconds, for drowsy or distract drivers. This is a gamechanger, and has the potential to save lives, as the car corrects itself when the driver has made a mistake. It will also give the driver hints to ensure that they are driving safer.
What about the F 015?
The Mercedes-Benz F 015 is a self-driving concept car that is going to take us all into the future of space-age. The car has been designed to look like something out of a Sci-Fi novel, and comes with a lounge space and mobile office, where you can answer emails, and catch-up with friends, while the car navigates around traffic to get you to your destination. It also features 6-touch gesture-sensitive screens and lets you make calls, and adjust the music volume.
The mobile controls of the car help you summon it anywhere, and it also communicates with pedestrians as well. If the F 015 senses pedestrians are about to walk in front of the car, it will stop automatically, and allow them to pass by creating a laser-guided crosswalk.
When will a full, self-driving model be available?
Mercedes-Benz have grand plans of releasing their self-driving model soon, but for some people it can’t come soon enough. Mercedes-Benz has estimated that their superior self-driving model will only become available around 2030, but you can expect another car manufacturer to release one before that time arrives. There are already signs of autonomous cars making an impression on the automobile industry, and it is only a matter of time when self-driving cars are on the road.
