Shopping for a luxury sedan in Brampton? You may be considering the 2019 BMW 5-Series and 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Both are popular options in their segment — and with good reason. Although they’re similar in a few ways, we at Mercedes-Benz Brampton know the ins and outs of the new E-Class; it’s unlike anything else on Caledon roads. It’s equipped with technologies with which the BMW 5-Series simply can’t compete. Compare the BMW 5-Series vs. Mercedes-Benz E-Class below to learn more!

E-Class vs. 5-Series: Performance & Handling

When it comes to performance, the E-Class and 5-Series are similar in a few ways. But, when you look closely at their spec sheets, you’ll notice a few differences that could sway you in one direction vs. the other. Compare their performance below:

  • Engine: Both models are available with multiple engines, however, at the base level they come equipped with 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engines. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class generates 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the BMW 5-Series generates 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive comes standard on both sedans.
  • Transmission: You’ll likely enjoy a smoother drive through Caledon behind the wheel of the E-Class. It comes standard with a 9-speed automatic, while the 5-Series gets an 8-speed automatic.

E-Class vs. 5-Series: Luxury Features

As luxury sedans, the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class come equipped with many of the same features, including dual-zone automatic climate control, driver memory settings, and driver assists like forward collision warning and mitigation. When it comes to luxury and technologies, the E-Class Sedan is tough to beat, however. Unlike the 5-Series Sedan, it comes standard with the following:

  • 64-Color Ambient LED Interior Lighting: The LED ambient lighting system can be configured with 64 driver-selectable colors, making every drive around Orangeville unique.
  • ATTENTION ASSIST®: This driver attention monitor learns your driving behaviors over time and will notify you if it detects signs you might be getting drowsy behind the wheel.
  • PRESAFE® Sound: PRESAFE® Sound is an extension of PRESAFE® and plays a “pink noise” via the audio system if a collision seems likely. This noise stimulates a natural reaction in the human ear and can help protect your hearing.
  • Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™: The 5-Series comes with Apple CarPlay® but not Android Auto™, which can be a problem for drivers with Android phones. The E-Class, however, includes both.
