Mercedes-Benz is currently developing their next SL model. They hope to change this vehicle’s image from a grand tourer to a world-class sports car. Mercedes-Benz has enlisted AMG, their in-house division focused on power, to create their next SL model.

Mercedes-Benz hopes to create a faster vehicle with greater dynamics. The SL will remain a two seat roadster, but it will have a new platform called modularen sportwagen architektur, or MSA. This new design will make the SL weigh less, increasing both agility and fuel economy. The folding metal hardtop will be replaced with a cloth soft top, which will reduce the overall weight.

The SL will have a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight six. This is a brand new engine that experts believe will be replacing the V6. The new engine will exert 365 horsepower on the base model SL. The SL 400 will have an improved engine with 435 horsepower.

The Mercedes-Benz SL has seen several updates for its 2017 model. It is believed to be sticking around for at least two more years. The new SL would potentially arrive by 2019 or 2020.
