#MercedesBenz is joining the all-electric market with the 2017 B-Class Electric Drive. The B-class has been available in Canada with conventional gasoline engines for a few years now. With more urban areas offering free parking at electric charging stations, incentives are higher for electric vehicles. With a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds, the 177 horsepower electric motor moves the front wheel drive hatchback with 251 pound feet of torque, for quick acceleration. And the B-class comes with Mercedes-Benz’s COMAND system, which is the ergonomic driver control system used in other models.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive utilizes the drive system from Musk Industries, consisting of a lithium-ion floor battery pack and a 132 Kilowatt electric motor up front under the hood. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are instead used to control varying levels of regenerative braking, practically eliminating the need for using your brakes during regular commuting. A two-hour charge will provide 60 miles of range, with only 90 minutes more required for a full charge. That full charge will take you 87 miles, with a top speed of 100 miles per hour. Mercedes also gives you a useful mobile app to find charging stations near you, and preheat or precool the cabin while charging.

With seating for 5, this B-class hatchback is surprisingly roomy for being so compact. A variety of packages give you multiple options for the interior, sound and navigation. Nine airbags are standard alongside adaptive braking technology and collision-prevention assist. The best part? The B-class gets an equivalent of 85 miles per gallon, so you can save on fuel costs during your daily commute.
