How to Get Stickers off a Car’s Paint

After you’ve collected the tools you need, it’s just a matter of elbow grease and following our steps below to remove the sticker.

  1. Start by cleaning the sticker and the surrounding area using car soap.
  2. Turn on your hairdryer, and when it heats up, hold it about two to three inches away from the sticker for a few seconds. Move the hairdryer from the inside out, making sure to heat the entire area.
  3. After the sticker has been heated, it will be time to take out your plastic card. Start gently pushing the card’s edge under the edge of the sticker. As long as you see the adhesive residue starting to lift, you should be able to slowly peel the rest off. However, it’s important to note that this step may require you to repeat the heating and peeling process multiple times. What’s more, your sticker might come off in small pieces rather than in one go.
  4. Once your sticker is removed, you may note that you still have a layer of residue on your vehicle. If that’s the case, and you’re unsure how to remove sticker residue from a car, you’ll be relieved to know that it’s a relatively easy fix. Simply take your clean, dry cloth and apply some Goo Gone Automotive or tree sap remover. Then, using gentle pressure, wipe until the residue is gone.

Materials for Removing Stickers From Car Windows

When looking at how to remove stickers off a car’s window, you’ll note that the process is a little different and doesn’t require the same tools Before starting the process, you’ll want to make sure you have the following on hand:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dish soap and hot water

  • Razor blade
  • Clean, dry towels

Note: Please be careful when using a razor blade and never use a razor blade on the inside of a tinted window.

How to Get Stickers off a Car’s Window or Windshield

With the tools you need in hand, you can remove the sticker on your window or windshield by:

  1. Carefully use the razor blade to peel up the sticker’s edge, and then slowly work it to remove the rest of the sticker.
  2. With the sticker off, mix hot water and dish soap and apply to a clean towel. Then rub the mixture over the sticker residue until it begins to dissipate. In some cases, this will be all you need to do, however, if you still notice residue after cleaning, you can move to the next step.
  3. If you need to, you can continue to try to remove the sticker residue with a razor blade.
  4. In the case of particularly stubborn sticker residue, rubbing alcohol can be used as a final step. Start by soaking a paper towel in the rubbing alcohol, and then alternate scrubbing the area and using the razor blade. Once you’re done, a clean towel can be used to wipe away any remnants.
