The 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class: A Legend Updated

August 22nd, 2018 by

Mercedes-Benz G-Class is probably the most iconic car that the German automakers have ever made (apart from the S-Class of course). It has been around for almost four decades and has been the flag carrier of the company when it comes to off-roading vehicles by Mercedes-Benz.

It is said that there is always room for improvement. This saying fits perfectly with the G-Class, which has been in production since 1979. The first generation of the G-Wagen lasted almost forty years, but now it is finally replaced by the second-generation model that was launched earlier this year. Although Mercedes-Benz is calling it the second-generation model, you can hardly tell the difference when looking from the outside. This is because Mercedes-Benz has decided to keep the same design aesthetics that have been on the car since 1979.

The SUV might look the same, but it is brand new when it comes to engineering. Everything underneath the new G-Class has been completely revisited by the manufacturers. The negligible changes to the exterior of the vehicle include a choice of 19-inch and 20-inch wheels. The paint options include 24 different colors, and if you look closely, you will also notice that it has brand new LED headlamps at the front. The ground clearance of this new model has also been increased by 3.9 inches.

Another slight change you might notice is the placement of the spare wheel at the back. The wheel has been moved slightly to the left side to improve visibility through the rear-view mirror.

The interior of the new G-class has been completely changed. One look can confirm that this is a new car. As compared to the old model, the new model has increased legroom space. The car seats have also been re-designed with high-quality nappa leather upholstery.

Another noticeable difference in the interior of the car is the big side-by-side 12.3-inches display screens, placed on the dashboard. In this new G-class model,  you will also find all the comfort and convenience of a typical Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicle as it has the same features, such as Burmester sound system, ambient lighting, seat massage, and many other features.

The new Mercedes-Benz G550 is set to feature a gasoline powered V8 engine, which will produce 416 HP. Although the G-Class model is designed for off-road adventures, this engine will allow it to move at a top speed of 150 mph.

If you think that the G550 doesn’t have enough power, then there is always an AMG version for people like you. The new G63 AMG will feature a massive 4.0 L V8 bi-turbo that will produce 577 HP and 627 lb-ft of torque. This monster engine will blast the SUV from 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds (faster than most sports cars).

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class G550’s starting price is around $130,000. The G63 AMG will cost you around $225,000.
