Mark your calendars for September 7, 2025, when Mercedes-Benz will unveil the all-new electric GLC at IAA Mobility in Munich. This premiere will be the first official reveal of what the company calls "the biggest product launch program in our company's history." The timing suggests that Canadian availability information will follow shortly after the global debut.
One of the most striking features of the new electric GLC is its reimagined grille. Mercedes-Benz has taken one of automotive history's most iconic design elements and transformed it for the electric age. The new grille features a chrome frame, smoked-glass-effect lattice structure, and integrated contour lighting. The optional illuminated version includes 942 backlit dots that can be animated, creating a dynamic visual experience that brings the GLC to life.
The electric GLC will be the first Mercedes-Benz to showcase the brand's new MB.OS operating system, described as a "supercomputer" that powers the vehicle's digital functions. This advanced system will enable new levels of personalization and connectivity, marking a major step forward in automotive technology for the brand.
Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the electric GLC can add approximately 260 kilometres of range (WLTP) in just 10 minutes of DC fast charging. This advanced charging capability means that a coffee break could provide enough energy for most daily driving needs in Ontario. The system can support DC fast charging at over 320 kW when using compatible charging stations.
The electric GLC will offer an optional MBUX HYPERSCREEN, described as a "majestically floating next generation" display that provides a comprehensive spatial experience and digital elegance. This expansive screen setup will offer what Mercedes-Benz calls a "Welcome Home" feeling, creating a familiar and comfortable digital environment for every journey.
The electric GLC will offer an available Agility & Comfort Package that includes AIRMATIC air suspension technology borrowed from the flagship S-Class. This system, paired with rear-axle steering offering up to 4.5 degrees of steering angle, promises to deliver superior ride comfort while maintaining dynamic handling characteristics for both city driving and highway cruising.
Space won't be a concern in the electric GLC. The main trunk provides 570 litres of cargo space, expanding to 1,740 litres when the rear seats are folded. Additionally, the front trunk adds another 127 litres of storage space, accessible via touch control. This provides excellent versatility for Ontario families and their gear.
The GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ technology will feature a towing capacity of up to 2,400 kg (5,291 lbs) when properly equipped. The 100 kg (220 lb) tongue weight capacity allows for transporting electric bicycles and other gear on suitable carriers. Advanced features like ESP trailer stabilization and trailer maneuvering assistant will make towing both convenient and stable.
Mercedes-Benz has extensively tested the electric GLC in some of the world's harshest conditions, including the polar regions of Sweden with temperatures well below freezing. The vehicle features a standard air-side heat pump system that uses approximately one-third of the electrical energy that a comparable electric heater would consume. This multi-source system can harness waste heat from the drive unit, battery, and ambient air to maintain comfort even during Canadian winters.
The electric GLC introduces the next phase of Mercedes-Benz's "Sensual Purity" design philosophy. This elevated design language focuses on reduction, clean lines, and advanced technology integration. The GLC serves as the first vehicle to showcase this evolution, setting the stage for future Mercedes-Benz models and marking what the company calls "a turning point in the midsize segment."
