Car Noises To Look Out For

Car Noises To Look Out For

Keeping your vehicle out of harm’s way is a big worry for any car owner. Our Ontario Mercedes staff at Mercedes-Benz Brampton has compiled a list of seven noises to look out for to identify issues with your vehicle.

  1. Coin in a clothes dryer

This is a noise that everyone is familiar with and is likely a loose lug nut inside your hub cap. You can prevent this from happening by making sure your lug nuts are twisted tightly.

  1. Squealing, grinding or growling brakes

Brakes are one of the most important things on your vehicle to keep maintained. If you hear these noises then you need to get your brakes checked immediately. The noise usually comes from metal touching metal, a sign of worn down brakes.

  1. Clicking when turning

On rear and four-wheel drive, this could mean that your constant velocity joints on the front axle need to be replaced.

  1. Squeaking as you accelerate

This indicates that your universal joint needs to be assessed. The U-joint comes in pairs and are a part of the driveshaft.

  1. Howling, whining noise

This red flag means that your bearings are failing and need to be replaced. Bearings help parts rotate smoothly in your vehicle.

  1. Banging under the hood

This is a dangerous situation and could be a big problem with the valves that connect the rods or pistons. If you ever experience this then you need to bring it to our service shop immediately.

  1. Squealing under the hood when starting-up or accelerating

This sounds can usually be traced to worn or loose accessory belts that work with the power steering pump, air conditioner compressor and alternator. If your vehicle is new, then it is usually caused by the serpentine belt which is easy to replace.

If you ever notice any of these issues, do not hesitate to bring your #MercedesBenz vehicle to our Mercedes Benz Ontario dealership. Our service technicians are constantly trained throughout the year to be up to date with Mercedes-Benz trends and issues.
