The brand new GLE-Class features the E-Active Body Control, which is an intelligent air suspension system. This system features independent dampers on each wheel of the car to provide the optimal ride. This system allows the car to put on impressive times on the track by going through the corners at insane speeds. Because of this feature, the car can bounce on sand dunes or climb rocky mountains.
The new GLE-Class also features a 48-volt battery dedicated to power the E-Active Body Control system. The battery is located under the floor of the driver’s seat. This simple addition of the battery makes the GLE a ‘mild hybrid’ vehicle.
Most of the current GLEs bought nowadays stay on the road their entire lives. They are hardly considered as the first choice for an offroading adventure. Mercedes-Benz plans to change that with their upcoming model of the GLE. The manufacturers have been quite adamant that the GLE is a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and not just a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), which most vehicles are branded as in this category.
