7 Reasons Why You Should Buy the New G-Class

7 Reasons Why You Should Buy the New G-Class

Mercedes-Benz G-Class (a.k.a the G-Wagen) is an Austrian made German SUV that has been in production since 1979. For almost 40 years, the G-Wagen has  retained its iconic shape because perfection just can’t be improved.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the second generation of the G-Class this year and it is already up for sale in the market. The new model is actually bigger, better, and more powerful than the outgoing first generation. Despite being brand new, at first glance you can hardly tell the difference at all. This is because Mercedes-Benz has decided to keep the iconic shape for the next generation as well.

Although you don’t really need a reason to buy this legendary SUV, here are 7 of them anyway:

1. It’s Bigger

If you think the older G-Class was a big vehicle, than you will be surprised to hear that its size wasn’t enough for the designers at Mercedes-Benz. The new G-Class is about 5-inches wider and at least 2-inches longer than the outgoing model. This size increment isn’t really visible on the exterior, but you would definitely feel the increased space in the interior, especially around the back seats.

2. It’s More Luxurious

To follow the trends, the first generation model of the G-Class received multiple updates and facelifts. Up until last year it became pretty luxurious as compared to its previous models. But the new G-Class has received almost all top-of-the line luxury features from Mercedes-Benz. When it comes to luxury specs, this new SUV is much closer to the mighty S-Class when it comes to luxury specs.

3. It’s Lighter and More Efficient

The designers and engineers have managed to shave off almost 375 pounds (170 kg) of weight from the new model. They were able to achieve this marvelous weight reduction by adding more aluminum parts in the chassis and frame.

Despite being lighter, the new model features the same 4.0 L bi-turbo V8 engine from the older model.

4. The AMG Variant is More Powerful

The new G-Class also has a new AMG variant, which is the G63 AMG. The G63 features a 4.0 L bi-turbo V8 engine, which produces a whopping 577 HP. That is 40 more than the previous AMG model. This engine accelerates the SUV from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.

5. Brand New Transmission

The new G-Class features the brand new 9G-TRONIC 9-speed transmission by Mercedes-Benz.

6. Better Handling

Although the G-Class is mostly designed for off-road terrains, it can still rip off the tarmac when driving on the road. For the first time, the new G-Class features independent front suspensions for better handling on the road.

7. Still the Best Off-Roader

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class is still the king when it comes to off-roading. It comes with the best four-wheel drive system and three locking differentials, which can conquer all terrains on the planet.
