The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC is here, and it has a lot to offer. Redesigned in 2022 and introduced to the market as a 2023 model year, the new GLC returns in 2024 with everything that has made the Mercedes-Benz compact luxury SUV so popular with buyers in the Brampton region over the years. The new-generation GLC has more connectivity and safety technology, improved off-road capability, electrified powertrains across the board, enhanced towing features, and an exceptional blend of comfort and performance you will enjoy every day. Spacious and versatile, the 2024 GLC does not require compromise in any area, delivering true Mercedes-Benz luxury every time you head out the door. In the following article, we take a look at every way the new GLC has improved in its latest redesign.
If you are in the market for a new luxury SUV or currently own a previous-generation GLC, we think you will be impressed by some of these new features and improvements.
The 2024 GLC marks a significant leap in efficiency with its new mild-hybrid powertrains. Equipped exclusively with 48-volt technology and an integrated starter-generator, these engines blend performance with environmental consciousness. The four-cylinder units from the latest Mercedes-Benz engine family ensure that the GLC aligns with the brand's commitment to needs-based electrification and global production flexibility.
The incorporation of a second-generation integrated starter generator in these mild-hybrid units elevates the GLC's performance, especially in the low rev range. Key features like "gliding," boost, and recuperation, enabled by the 48-volt electrical system, contribute to significant fuel savings. The quick and comfortable engine start-stop function and the seamless transition between gliding and propulsion enhance the driving experience.
The engines' smooth running at idle, assisted by the synergy between the ISG and the combustion engine, sets a new standard in the segment. With a displacement of 1999 cc and outputs of 255 hp at 5800 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque, the GLC's powertrain is both potent and refined, offering an additional electric boost of 23 hp.
Aerodynamics plays a crucial role in the GLC's design, achieving a drag coefficient of Cd = 0.29, making it notably more aerodynamic than its predecessor. This advancement is a testament to Mercedes-Benz's commitment to optimizing its vehicles for efficiency and performance. Using digital flow simulations (CFD) and real-vehicle tests in the aeroacoustic wind tunnel has resulted in a sleek design that performs exceptionally well in terms of drag and wind noise reduction.
The exterior of the 2024 GLC is a blend of sensual purity, intelligence, and emotion, a signature of Mercedes-Benz's design philosophy. Its bold and stylish appearance, characterized by an aggressive grille and dynamic body lines, is complemented by a range of wheel options that are both aesthetically pleasing and aerodynamically efficient. The new GLC features a redesigned front end, connecting the headlamps directly to the radiator grille, enhancing the vehicle's width. The optional Sport and Night Packages add an extra layer of customization, showcasing the SUV's sporty and confident stance.
The SUV's body design strikes a balance between elegance and off-road performance, with options like wheel arch liners in the vehicle colour and easy-entry running boards. The two-section rear lights with a three-dimensional look and simulated chrome underguards at both ends augment the GLC's sophisticated and athletic profile.
The interior of the 2024 GLC is not only technologically advanced but also more spacious than ever, underscoring Mercedes-Benz's commitment to comfort and luxury. The vehicle's dimensions have been optimized to enhance the interior space, offering increased room for both passengers and cargo. The GLC's larger rear overhang has significantly increased luggage capacity, now offering 600 litres of cargo space, 50 litres more than the preceding model. This added space is readily noticeable in daily use, catering to diverse needs, from family trips to everyday transport requirements.
The dashboard features a wing-like profile with new, flattened round nozzles and a lower section with a generous trim area that flows into the curved centre console. The driver and central display screens, measuring 12.3 and 11.9 inches, respectively, present information clearly and structured. The full-screen navigation and MBUX Augmented Reality for navigation are optional features that add to the ease of use and functionality. For example, the "Hey, Mercedes" voice assistant's dialogue and learning capabilities are based on cutting-edge algorithms, further enhancing the personalized driving experience. Integration with music streaming providers and features like the "Newsflash" and "Smart Home" functions turn the GLC into a mobile command centre, offering unparalleled convenience and connectivity.
The new GLC is explicitly designed for off-road adventures, equipped with features like standard off-road driving mode, DSR, and a 360-degree camera that offers a "transparent engine hood" view. The off-road screen uses both displays to provide comprehensive information, controls, and functions, making off-road driving more intuitive and enjoyable.
The GLC also excels as a towing vehicle, with features like the towing route planner and trailer menu in MBUX, ensuring routes are suitable for the defined trailer. The enhanced Trailer Manoeuvring Assist simplifies reversing with a trailer, offering various camera perspectives and dynamic guidelines on the central display.
Interior dimensions have been thoughtfully considered to maximize passenger comfort. The GLC now offers more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room, making long journeys or short trips equally enjoyable. The design's focus on modern, sporty luxury is evident in every aspect of the interior, from the dashboard's wing profile to the ergonomically designed seats that provide both support and comfort.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC delivers more of what buyers want in their next luxury SUV. Whether you need to tow, go off-road, or want performance that doesn’t come at the expense of efficiency, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC delivers. The new model builds upon the strengths of its predecessors, offering a comprehensive package of luxury, performance, and advanced technology.
