Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control From Mercedes-Benz

Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control From Mercedes-Benz

Have you heard of Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control?  At Mercedes-Benz Brampton, we thought it was worth knowing about, so here are the facts.  This adaptive cruise control from Mercedes-Benz uses a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle to help maintain a pre-set distance from the car ahead of you.  The word Distronic is a combination of the words “distance” and “electronic.”

The Distronic system operates like conventional cruise control.  However, if it recognizes a slower moving vehicle in its path, the vehicle will automatically slow down to maintain your set following distance.  If you pull into a clear lane, the vehicle will resume its original speed setting.  The Distronic system will do more than reduce throttle opening and downshift the transmission to control your vehicle speed.  It can also apply partial braking automatically if needed in order to maintain the desired following distance.

The radar sensor is mounted behind the grille and sends out three separate overlapping cone-shaped beams of three degrees in width that cover one traffic lane.  These radar beams can project up to several hundred feet down the road ahead.  It receives signals reflected back from objects ahead and that information is sent to a microprocessor via a discrete circuit.  The microprocessor actually decides how to vary the acceleration and whether or not to apply the brakes.

At our Mercedes-Benz Ontario dealership, we’re excited about Distronic Adaptive Cruise Control and all of the other new technologies being developed.
