How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

There are a number of options when it comes to charging your new electric vehicle in Caledon. Different EVs have different plugs and ports, but with the available charging adapters you won’t be tied to one charging method. With that in mind, you may be wondering, “how long does it take to charge an electric car.” In truth, it varies depending on which option you choose. Your Mercedes-Benz charging time will be specific to the type, make, and model as well.

There are different battery packs equipping your EV. So, all in all, there is quite a bit of variety from the models and the main types of charging, including: domestic charging, rapid domestic charging, and public charging — and how your choice of each will ultimately determine your electric vehicle charging time. Electric Car Charging Time: Charging Options

  1. Domestic Outlet Home Charging (Regular Outlet): A normal grounded (three-prong) 110V/120V charging outlet (Level 1 Charging) isn’t particularly fast charging speed, but it’s a good option if you are looking to top off after your Orangeville commute. Level 1 charging can take 24 hours or more for a full charge.
  2. Installed Brand-Approved Domestic Charging: Level 2 Charging is generally professionally installed. This method uses rapid ( 240V+) chargers typically made by the manufacturer, and have significantly faster charging rates than with the typical grounded household outlet. This will take just a few hours. DC fast chargers (as opposed to AC ones) are also common, and it’s not unheard of to obtain an 80% charge in a half an hour or forty minutes. The last 20% will take longer as there’s a diminishing rate of charging speed as well.
  3. Public Charging: You can also charge around Orangeville at public charging stations. These charging stations vary in type and speed, but are typically Level 2 charging speeds for greater convenience. Some public chargers even offer emissions-free renewable energy charging with solar panels or wind turbines!

Electric Car Charging Time: Public Stations

Typically, home chargers offer 3.7 kW or 7 kW charging. While public stations, on the other hand, offer 22 kW charging, 43-50 kW rapid charging, and 150 kW rapid charging. This means for some vehicles, you can achieve a full charge (0-100%) in an hour or so. While in some cases it may take 4 hours, 6 hours, or 11 hours for a full charge.
