What Happens If Your Windshield Gets Dinged?

What Happens If Your Windshield Gets Dinged?

It’s happened to every driver at one time or another.  You’re driving down the road, minding your own business and suddenly there’s the sound of something solid hitting your windshield.  It might be a rock, pebble or a little bit of debris that’s been kicked up by that truck in front of you but there it is…a chip or even a crack.

Your vehicle’s windshield is very important when it comes to ensuring your safety while driving.  So what do you do if you happen to get a chip or crack in it? The service experts at Mercedes-Benz Brampton, your #1 Mercedes-Benz Ontario dealer, have prepared this information for you.

If you get a small chip in your windshield and don’t treat it or repair it, it can quickly create a crack. The good news is, if you repair the chip, you get to save your windshield AND keep the original factory seal on your windshield.  More importantly, the cost of repairing a chip is a lot less than the cost of replacing an entire windshield.  The cost of chip repair varies from shop to shop, but as a rule, it’s about $50.  If a windshield chip if smaller than the size of a quarter it can usually be repaired.

Once you have a crack or chip in your windshield, read your auto insurance policy.  Most comprehensive insurance coverage policies will pay for the entire cost of the chip repair.  If not, you can take it to a repair shop and get an estimate. Some companies will come out and give you an estimate.  They can come to your home or office, making it very convenient to have it repaired.  When a chip is repaired, the work is usually not visible and in almost every case it will prevent the chip from becoming a crack.  If your windshield has a crack, it’s important to replace your windshield.  The last thing you want is for your windshield to shatter while you are driving around.

The service professionals at Mercedes-Benz Brampton are happy to inspect your windshield and advise you about next steps.  We offer a full range of services to help keep your vehicle running great for as long as you own it!  If you live in the Brampton or greater GTA area, we hope you’ll come see us at Mercedes-Benz Brampton, your #1 Mercedes CA dealership!
